| The Marines and "Citizen Control"
While "Gun Talk"
was never envisioned as a political forum, I have no heartburn with political comments
occasionally being aired, most especially if they concern our right to "Keep and Arm
Bears" (hee, hee, hee...).
All this having been said, I think that the
most disturbing thing about our armed forces being trained to kick down doors and disarm
the citizenry has to do with the attitude our Government taken. Essentially, the
Government (or certain elements of it) have taken the stand that the Citizens (us) of the
United States are not to be "PROTECTED" by our Armed Forces but
"CONTROLLED" by them. For some unknown reason, we are now the "bad
guys", and must be herded and protected and disarmed for our own good! Hell, I
thought I elected Congress persons to represent me, NOT to disarm me, monitor
me, and mark me for a possible "concentration camp" candidate! What gives?
For those of you who have not studied our most
excellent Constitution carefully, go back and do so! If you check, you will find that our
"founders" were so apprehensive about maintaining a "standing army"
that they set up the "armed forces funding provisions" in such a manner that it
is necessary to "refund" the Army every two years, whereas the Navy has no such
provision... No one apparently thought of the Navy as a threat to their homes and
firesides, and the thought of using our rather tiny (at that time) Marine Corps for
operations in the interior of the United States would have been laughable.
Congress was also apprehensive about our Army
being used to enforce the law (as opposed to the local gendarmes) and passed something
called the "Posse Comitatus Act" under Title 18 of the U.S. Code. This act
prohibits the United States Army (and Air Force) from being used in a law enforcement
roll. Unfortunately, no one thought about the Navy at the time. I also understand that the
Delta Force is also exempt from the provisions of this act. Someone is "weasel
wording" here since the obvious intent of the legislation was to prevent the United
States Armed forces from imposing the will of the Government on the people! This is
obviously the purview of local law enforcement, not the Armed Forces. The National Guard
can be used to quell riots under control of the Governor, but the Active Duty Army is a
"no-no"...
For those of you who are not students of
history, why in the world do you suppose that the British Bobbies were unarmed for many
years? Do you suppose that it was because British Citizens were less violent than
Americans or needed less control? Not true, the Brits were even more paranoid than their
American Cousins. They have ALWAYS feared a "standing army" on British soil. The
Brit understood the need for a standing navy (being an Island Kingdom), but a standing
army gave them cold chills. When Robert Peel (the founding father of the British Police
hence the nickname "Bobby") suggested the National Police, the Englishmen
would not hear of it unless they were unarmed true story!
Its time to get our "sierra in one
bravo" and start writing VERY STRONG letters to our Congressmen and Senators.
Hopefully they are still responsive to our wishes and desires! If it has gone past that
point we are in a world of hurt! Get busy, get hot and get vocal. Dont take as an
excuse, that "this is really good training for combat in foreign lands," the
Military still has what we used to call "Combat Towns" that they can use for
such training (its now called MOUT Training and MOUT Facilities so they dont
try to BS you with verbiage "MOUT" stands for Military Operations in
Urban Terrain).
Folks, the entire situation does NOT bode
well! Everyone snickers when the so-called "Black Helicopters" are mentioned,
and anyone touting such information is immediately labeled an extremist or a Militia Type.
There are "black helicopters" buzzing around our cities (I think they are just
dark in color, not truly black) and Im not so sure they are harmless in the long
haul! Im neither an extremist or a member of the Militias, and Im beginning to
get worried. We CAN do something about this! Write, Fax, call and e-mail your elected
representatives and voice your displeasure in the strongest possible terms but be
polite, be literate, be very well informed (no innuendoes, no rumors, just facts!), and
above all be PERSISTENT!
Best regards,
Dick
