With the apparent interest of our readers in
the identification of their M1 Rifles, and the lack of a consistent format to work from, I
have extracted an M1 Data Sheet from my personal programs. This "Data Sheet" was
constructed utilizing Scott Duffs format as presented in his various books, and
follows what has become a sort of "collectors standard". In other words,
it allows everyone to get a drink from the same hoofprint and to compare your rifle(s)
with rifles of known authenticity. For those of us less paranoid, it allows you to prepare
a sheet on each M1 you own (or hope to own), and provide a record that would be of great
help in the event of the unthinkable, a fire or burglary.
We have tested this on our system, and using Netscape, all you
have to do is mouse click on the "print(er)" on your toolbar, and voilá, your
trusty printer will do the rest for you. You can then use this as a "work sheet"
or put it in your typewriter and fill in the blanks. The form SHOULD print out as a single
(one page) sheet.
For those of you with Microsoft Excel installed on your
Computers, if youll send me your e-mail address, Ill send you the same
document as an "attachment" that you can add to your own Excel Files. You can
then call up the form, type in your specifications, and print out a hardcopy.
In the meantime, Gloria is working on the one we have just
posted to convert it into a "form" that will allow you to fill in the blanks on
the web and print your hardcopy straight from the website. Well keep you informed of
the progress.
Best regards, good shooting, and keep em in the x-ring
(and may all your "Collector's Grade" M1s be "Gas Traps"!
