The markings on the receiver have obviously been milled off on this example. Does anyone have a 97 with a single line marking of this dimension? If yours is still intact, what does it read? My serial number is E734566

Of course, anything could have been marked on that shotgun. But FWIW, here's a Model 12 marked "WASHINGTON STATE PATROL" in that same area. And apparently they are factory markings. (see link below).

I have M1897 serial E101935X and the left side is marked ANJPD-1. This marking is much higher on the receiver than yours and centered. I guess it stands for A______ New Jersey Police Dept. I don't know the history. I believe this was the last year of manufacture. The gun is parkerized. Geoff
