Lyman 48s on M2

Was the Lyman 48s a sight that is original or correct for a Springfield M2? I saw one and I was wondering if it was original, a service replacement or a civvy replacement.

I have seen other M2's with Lyman 48S sights. There is a Springfield .22 listed on an internet auction at this time that appears to have a Lyman 48S but the picture does not show it clearly. I have assumed they were aftermarket replacements. There may have been 48S sights left over after they quit making the NRA Sporters and they could have been used on the M2's, 1922MII's and 1922M1's that were sold as surplus in the 1950's. I feel comfortable in saying they were not used on new production M2's by SA.
