Ken, thanks for posting this. I read 7 Pillars when I was a kid, it really inlfluenced my thinking. Lawrence had the subtlety to realize that sometimes you don't want to defeat the enemy, you want to bleed him where he sits, holding onto that position. For instance the Turks holding Medina.

I knew Lawrence was fascinated with the air arm, an in fact he went underground as an EM in the RAF. Sgt. Ross, I think he was. Whenever he got a pass he would jump on his Brough and ride out to join his talented, decadent friends in the "Bloomsbury Group" - like Vita Sackville-West, Virginia Woolfe, etc. None of them could quite figure LAwrence out ..


He refers to the aircraft in 7 Pillars, but mostly as couriers. He reported to Cairo and to some extent took orders from HQ there. The msgs went by air, often as not.


I really recommend 7 Pillars as a read, specially if you want to know more about the middle east and how it got that way. Plus the man could really write.
