View Full Version : Springfield Sporter C#7 rifles
Hello:
Just wanted to know if anyone remembers how much the Canadian #7 22 trainers that Springfield Sporters sold some years ago (missing the ejector and "front bolt" parts) were? How much were they?
Thanks!
Those were NOT C No. 7s. They were No. 7s. The difference is C no. 7s were made at Long Branch and used standard bolts with an off set head for rim fire. The straight No. 7s were made at Fazakerley and had a special bolt and barrel, both of which are almost impossible to find.
Springfield Sporters sold them for about $150.00. They were missing the Bolt head, ejector and magazine insert.

The No7 Mk1 rifle was a conversion of an existing No.4 and is interesting in that a BSA five-round commercial .22 magazine was welded into a SMLE Mk III* magazine to produce the only Enfield .22 repeater. These rifles were a special contract and produced exclusively for the Royal Air Force (RAF) in 1948. Total production 2,500.
Great Thanks! You're right, I should've known the difference between the Brit and Canadian trainers. (I do but wasn't thinking when I posted the question)
I was offered one and didn't want to over-pay........
I already know the chances of finding a magazine for one but then somehow I ended up with a spare barrel for one...... Go figure

The magazine is not the biggest problem, just get a BSA Sportsman 5 magazine, make a bracket and rivet it into the 303 mag casing.
Before I found my 'complete' No7 I was tempted to buy one with the 'bits' missing.
I found a source for the ejector but the bolt head and extractor seemed impossible to find either side of the pond. Brian Dick did tell me he knew of a few No7s needing these parts and would possibly (sometime in the future) look at having them made.

"...chances of finding a magazine..." No. 7 mags weren't used for feeding. The No. 7 is a single shot. The mag provided a feed ramp and a place for empty cases to fall into only. Same mag with a different follower. Not many of them around either.
If anybody needs 'em, Elwood Epp's, up here, is listing 2 Long Branch No. 7 bolt heads at $40Cdn each. Under 'This and That' then Misc. Gun Parts. Receivers are $50Cdn each. Under Military Rifles. Likely won't be able to get 'em into the U.S. though. http://www.ellwoodepps.com/

The confusion is made worse by using the incorrect terms / nomenclature you say a "No7 is single shot" - I assume you are refering to a CNo7 ?
Thats the difference between a 'No7' and a 'CNo7'
The No7 is a repeater with a 5 shot magazine
The CNo7 is a single shot.
Im also guessing the bolt heads quoted at $40 and the receivers at $50 are for a CNo7 ?
The bolt heads are vastly different and in no way interchangable between a No7 and a CNo7
Click the link and scroll down until you see BSA No7 in 'colour blue', then click on that for full info :

Hope that none south of the border are wanting for the above bolt heads due to our current border problems.
I seem to remember having quite a few in the parts box.
