Looks by the size and shape of the rounds that it might be for the STG44.
Whermact 8mm short round.
Just a guess.

They are a rimless cartridge.

I say 7.62 x 51.

not 7.62x51mm, but close in time period

Almost impossible to tell from pics. Looks like M-14 to me. Are the cartridge head stamps a state secret!? That would be a clue, but not really prove anything.

I'll take a WAG and say French 7.5x54mm on a stripper clip for a MAS 36.

The 7.62x45 that Czechoslovakia designed and used in the late 50's early 60's maybe?

Produced for the Czech Vz52 or frequently called the SHE52 rifle. Alot of these rifles were converted to fire the Soviet 7.62x39mm.

Most of this 7.62x45mm is steel cased

I never would have guessed that. I never saw or handled the cartridge before. I need to get out more. :)

These rifles have been around for years and are fun to shoot, the trigger housing looks like a smaller M1 rifle trigger housing. Only thing I was not fond of was the folding bayonet. The original rifles still chambered for the 7.62x45mm cartridge have gone up in price over the past few years - examples can be from $500 to $700 now. Almost all the cartridges produced were steel cased !
