Read this in the paper a little while ago.
I have some bokken but no sword.
Maybe I should get one.
I keep thinking when I deploy to the Hindu Kush I should take one.

Theres a lot wrong with that story. The bad guy had been arrested multiple times and was a known thief. He had pulled a gun on a cop but the charges were on "hold".
The kid should have his tuition paid just for the money he saved society of having to keep dealing with the scum bag.
I once had a prison officer tell me he could rehabilitate a murderer as most killings are crimes of passion, not forethought. But, he went on to add, he had never seen a thief rehabilitated. It's a lot easier to steal than get up and go to work for a living. Although, in this fellow's case, he would have had to steal with one hand, if he had survived.:grommit:
I do kata exercises for Kenjutsu with the iaido and tamashegiri practice with the katana. It was pretty sharp out of the box, but I've been slowly polishing it to bring out the color of the steels from the differential heat treatment of the blade, as well as stoning and strapping the edge. I practice cutting on cheap straw window blinds from the flea market (these are tougher than tatami IMHO), as well as pool noodles and pumpkins, and I dont have any trouble envisioning how easy it would be to separate a goblins head or limb from his body as he climbed into one of your windows. I have a couple of Jap WWII swords, but I wouldnt trust the metallurgy in these to swing at any targets.
