**** date of mfg stevens model 520-30 ****

Can some senoir shotgun collector narrow down the date of manufacture of a *** STEVENS MODEL 520-30 *** U.S.ISSUE TRENCH GUN? SERIAL NO RANGE 560XX

The bayonet lug has no small "s". According to Mr Canfield's book on U.S.Issue shotguns, he indicated that the earlier Stevens 520-30
did not have the small "s". This one does not, but I am not sure what year this could be. I am guessing 1943???

Hi Bob. 1943 is probably correct. IIRC, there was a contract or contract amendment in late 1943 whcih required application of the "S" mark to the bayo adaptors. The "S" marked adaptors are predominantly found on 520 trench guns in the 65,000 serial number range and higher.
