Hogwash. Just because the M15 stunk we'll never have a good squad automatic rifle again. Look as the specially trained soldier fires wildly and then *cries* from the pain of 30 cal recoil! (I'm being very satirical, guys.)

The worst part about this video is I wasn't there and it was made 3 miles from my house!
Shooting one of those is my son's dream shot, pun intended!!

BAR weighs 21 pounds loaded; M14 weighs 10 pounds loaded. The weight means a lot as far as controllability goes.
Shooting the BAR on the bipod is like being in a comfortable rocking chair, but a lot more fun.

I fired BARs in the army.
I'm over 200lb and had to really brace myself to fire like that guy did.
Wonder what his trick is?
Knew a WW2 vet that was the BAR Man. He was proud that he could pull off three shot bursts and put them where he wanted. This man saw a lot of combat but his scariest moments were getting in the landing craft from the ship. He was afraid he would slip and with all the gear and ammo would sink right to the bottom.

I guess you have to lean into it. This video doesn't look like the muzzle is climbing wildly out of control and I think this guy probably weighs 180-190.

A lot of BAR men in WW2 were the smallest man in the squad. This was told to me by several WW2 vets. I knew one who was in New Guinea, he was about 5' 5" and weigh about 125 lbs soaking wet. He said he loved the BAR, had no trouble with it and wouldn't of carried any thing else in the jungle. He never said any thing about the controllability of it.

Gary tells me that when he was in the Corps he weighed about 150 lbs. Shooting a BAR from prone position looking over a rise he was pushed backwards so much that he lost sight of his target.
I'd like to have a go at a BAR. Looks like fun.

If a 30 cal rifle hurts your shoulder, you are a WIMP......chris3

Depends on the .30 cal rifle and the position. Many folks find shooting an M1903 rifle with the "S" stock from the prone position not a recreational experience at all. A "C" stock makes it a lot more enjoyable in that postion at least. My old daddy said that the M1903 from the prone positon was far and away his least favorite World War II training experience.
A .300 Weatherby is a .30 caliber rifle too, remember.
For a really not fun military rifle experience just shoot any 7.95x57mm rifle with that %$^%$%#$#@ 150 gr Turkish ball.
"...doesn't look like the muzzle is..." Has an aftermarket brake. Makes a difference.
"...weighs 21 pounds loaded..." Add the weight of the bipod too.
"...pushed backwards so much..." Know a guy who was so light, a BREN, that recoil pulls forward, dragged him off the firing point mound.
I own and shoot a variety of FA weapons to include the BAR, Bren, FN/FAL and M14.
My favorite by far is the FN/FAL, then the Bren, BAR and last and rarely shot is the M14.
The FN/FAL is a pleasure to shoot on FA and is Very controllable in 3 - 5 rd bursts.
The bren, as is the BAR, is fun to shoot prone, but a lot more fun to shoot standing in assault mode than the BAR, which is down right awkward to try to shoot standing.
The last of the 4 is the M14, which is an uncontrollable SOB standing on FA in more than 2 shot bursts and even then the 2nd shot is likely to be a flyer!
I am sure there are a few people around who can controll an M14, but I heve never met them!
I take my 14 out when someone thinks they can controll it, but I Never put more than 2 rds in the mag for their first try. IF they don't do terribly I'll give them a mag with 3 rds in it - 3rd rd is Always over the berm!
The Damn M14 is just NO fun to shoot when I have the very enjoyable FN/FAL!
