View Full Version : Martially Marked Remington Model 10-R

Gents,

Just picked up a Martially marked Model 10-R. It has the flaming bomb and US marks on the recevier and barrel. It has a 20" CYL. marked barrel. Of course, it's not in the greatest of condition, needs a serious cleaning. I don't have my copy of Canfield's with me. Anyone have any info on these guns? Number manufactured, dates of mfg. All help appreciated.

I have a Remington 10-R Riot, and it is only marked with the flaming bomb and "US" on the barrel, not the receiver. It is my understanding that the Riots were only marked this way, and that only the Trench Guns were marked on the left side of Receiver with the "US" and bomb.
Does the serial number of your barrel match the serial number of the receiver? If not, it is possible that you have a Trench Gun receiver and a Riot Barrel. The serial range for bot h Riots and Trench Guns is 150,000 to 165,000 roughly, but I have found earlier serial numbers documented.
Your buttstock should also be marked with a serial number, but you have to remove it from the receiver in order to see it.

Post some pictures if you can and that will tell more about your gun.

Thanks for your reply. The barrel and receiver serial numbers do not match. The receiver is SN 156000 and the barrel is 161295. I finally got my copy of Canfield's out and it states that it is a Trench gun converted to riot configuration after the war. It also states that you're not likely to ever find an original Remington Trench gun as most all of them were converted. So I suppose this is a close as I'll or anyone else will ever get to owning one.

I agree with Steve. Riots are marked on the barrel and trench guns on the receiver. You can also tell a trench receiver by the screws holes on the forward sides of the receiver. These were for the clamp that held the hand guard in place.

Riot barrels are marked "10-A" and are 20" long. Trench gun barrels are marked "10-A" and are 23" long.

Tom, my Model 10 Riot is marked "Model 10-R" on the barrel. The serial number on my gun is in the 161,000 range, so maybe it is a late feature?
