Russian 'spam can'

How the heck do you get the lid off of a Russian can of 7.62x54R ammo. CTD said no can opener was enclosed. I guess I just need a bigger hammer. But before I go that route, I thought I would ask for advise. Thank, Steve

I have used the can opener that was included with the can. But others have suggested using an angle grinder or a hammer and chisel. A web search will give additional methods.

One other thing. When you get it off, WATCH OUT. That cut can is sharp as a Marine Kbar.

I found that the soldered joints came apart easily once I got a corner started, I have only opened 2 cases so far but an old wood chisel and a hammer seemed to work real well.

Carefully, very carefully. Even with the can opener you get razor edges. Try to open one end and dump the ammo, do not try to open the whole thing.

Not meaning to hyjack the thread, but I recently bought some USMC boots like that and they are the most COMFORTABLE boots I have ever worn.

If we had them in the 60's, I might have put in 20.
