Hi all;

would a correct 2.21 million SA Garand have a short, riveted fork rod, and a cup on the front sight screw?...wide base gas cyl. as well, correct?....I knew this was about the time when the rev. 9 oprod came in, but was curious about the little parts...

thanks

Cap (seal) on front sight screw was discontinued in early 1943 by WRA and Springfield, IIRC, so yours should be uncapped (unsealed). Wide base GC is correct. Short fork, riveted rod should be OK as Duff lists transition to long fork with S/N 2.4M in Jan. '44. HTH.

Short Fork changeing to Long Fork at that time, so maybe yes or no. No cup on front sight screw. Wide base was being used then.

Late '43's well into '44 SA's you'll find narrow-base gas cyls with the cut sight base and wide-base gas cyls. I don't claim to know what became of the earlier gas cyl after it was superseded, except you'll find it in near-new condition (+ round WW II gas locks) on any number of post-WW II and Korea-era rebuilds that got new barrels and op rods. Would have to have been WW II spares that ended up being supplied to the arsenals.
