Here the current list link....

New Notes:
Well, if you're reading this, you've noticed the change of venue! :D I've wanted to have a little more control over posts within the message thread for awhile. Thanks to the folks here at CSP I will have that ability. What I intend to do in the near future is "sticky" the thread to the top of the forum, and then "unsticky" it when the next revision of the list is released. Once I've mastered some of the more elaborate functions in the forum, I think I will change the color of the submitted entries below to indicate that they've been entered into the list, rather than have 1/2 of the posts of the thread having me say, "In Rev X". Anyways, this will be more than enough change for this month.
Old Notes:
Merry Xmas and Happy New Year!
Reminder: This list is updated once a month or so. Once you submit your data, it will not appear until Rev 7 which will be released Early to mid-January. Happy Holidays!
MAJOR THANKS to Paul serving in Afghanistan. He's fighting for our freedom and correcting some "housekeeping" columns on the far right side of the spreadsheet (Duplicate and consecutive S/N). You guys may not need 'em, but it makes editing the list SOOOOO much easier. Who knew things would get so boring over there that editing a spreadsheet would be considered "fun"?
Everyone seems to be keeping up with the data format for the most part, my only request right now is KEEP THE SPACES TO A MINIMUM AROUND THE COMMAS. The reason for this is the comma separates the data fields, and if you do proper English and put a space in after the comma, _it _will _shift _the _data _in _the _spreadsheet _cell _over _one _space. And that get's annoying to fix.
With the holidays coming up, the new releases (like this one) may get delayed a day or two. I don't plan on skipping any months (yet), esp if Santa brings a copy of their favorite toy to every good little girl and boy.....there will be lots of data to enter.
One other thing....Please use WRA, SA, IHC, and HRA for the description in the "make" column. People have been getting "creative" lately and that is another thing to fix. Also, Pvt Purch, CMP, & DCM are the preferred acronyms/shorthand for how the rifle was acquired. Thanks.
As many have you have guessed (or those remaining oblivious...not guessed by now), the main pet peeve going on right now is concerning the FORMAT of the data (i.e. the order in which it is placed, and how it is separated). It is VERY critical for the cut-and-paste method to work here that you follow the format EXACTLY WITHOUT VARIATION, IMPROVEMENT, ADDITION, SUBTRACTION, ADJUSTMENT, OR APPROXIMATION. If another spate of “serial number data improvisation” occurs, I reserve to right not include anyone who does not bother to correct the data string to reflect the cut-and-paste format shown below. OK, enough said on that.
Some of you have asked, "Why should I put my number in this list, you from the gubernment or some other nefarious organization after my gun??!" Short Answer: Nope. This list was originally conceived by someone else, who wanted to duplicate Scott Duff's data page examples for public viewing. This would allow easy access to new data on Danish, Greek, and any other variant not covered in any of Duff's material. Then that site got hacked bad, and the database couldn't be repaired. Someone on the CMP forum was kind enough to post the output text before the site was shut down.
So what is the purpose of this list now? I see two reasons 1.) See if you hit the S/N lottery (i.e. a S/N next to yours making a consecutive pair) and 2.) if you see a S/N you'd like to learn more about, you can PM the owner here on the CMP board, if that alias is the one used here. Hopefully we'll get a better idea of what was Greek, Danish, in Museums, Demilled/Destroyed, etc. to see "what's left" after the entire Garand production run. OK, 'nuff said.
For new entries, from now on, the fields are to be delimited with COMMAS, NOT SPACES.... Here are some examples....
Serial_number,Owner,Source,Make,Notes
2264738,mdoerner @ CSP,CMP,SA,VAR Barrel 3-66
2431541,mdoerner @ CSP,CMP,WRA,Greek Return Rifle – Rebarreled to .308 Winchester
5880066,mdoerner @ CSP,CMP,SA,BBL 5-55 SA Greek Return Rifle
00339988,I Have Way Way Way Too Many Spaces In My Alias,CMP,BMB,General Patton's PERSONAL Freakin' Garand
All of the above listed are in an acceptable, correct format. 5 data fields separated with 4 commas.
(But please, don't add a SA,**INC.**receiver to the list, they're commercial and don't mean anything in the context of this listing)
DO NOT USE MORE THAN 4 COMMAS PER DATA STRING**(or else)
For now, if your M1 has a SUFFIX in the S/N, please put that in the notes, NOT in the serial number field, as it plays heck with the sort filters.
Also, I have added known serial numbers from GCA Journals Volumes 22 thru [current volume] (sorry, that's all that I got.) If you have earlier issues, I consider those published S/N's fair game. Those S/N will be attributed to GCA Journal, not an individual (kinda like getting a museum piece's S/N.) Also, if you know of a Garand in a museum, grab it's S/N and let's get it on the list.
But please, do not enter someone else's S/N even if you see it clearly on a post. I want this to be voluntary and public information. If they want it in the list, let the owner do it. Also, clipping the last digits on your S/N means I can't put it in the list. Following the incorrect data format keeps you out of the list too. If you don't want it seen on the internet, but want it in the list, PM me.
