Hi
Hope this is not off topic but I am interested in getting a SW 1522 but would like to hear from some owners.
TIA

Reliability on mine is near 100% for feeding & 100% for ejection. Some brand of ammo like Remington bulk plated HSHP are worse (this is an ammo problem, not a gun problem) than others. With some brands, reliability is 100%. Accuracy is very good. Trigger is a bit heavy compared to an AR15 match trigger. Sights are excellent & detachable. Lots of rails. Trigger parts will interchange with "real" AR parts (something competitor's AR22s will not do); controls are all like a real AR, again something some competitor's AR22s won't do. It's easy to disassemble & clean. I'd rate it an A-.

Is it easy to remove the barrel from this rifle? I did read it had issue with some Remington ammo, not a big deal for me.

Yep. I am in no way, shape, or form "TactiKool" but I got a bug up my butt and just had to get one. Got mine about 3 weeks ago (A1 style). What an awesome little blaster! Loads of fun!

I second what Kirk says. I broke it down and thoroughly cleaned it prior to shooting then put a little over 650 rounds (Without further cleaning) through mine the first trip to the range. Shot up 1 full box and about a half box of two types of the "Recommended" ammo, 2 magazines of Federal Auto-Match, and a full box (550 rounds) of Federal bulk pack with only 2 failure to fire from the bulk pack ammo. No mis-feed's, no failure to feed, no extraction problems, no nada. Sweet little gun! Built almost exactly like an M4. The trigger, whilst certainly not a match trigger, isn't bad. But if you do want a better trigger the Rock River NM 2-stage trigger will fit/replace the original with no modification. Neat! My only wish is that it came with a 20" barrel.

I compared reviews and then looked at and fondled the Sig, Colt, and S&W. Based on the reviews and feel I went with the S&W. Glad I did. Suggestion- It comes with 1 magazine. Buy at least 3 more! I bought an extra, but 2 magazines aren't enough, I need to get at least 2 more.

As this will be used strictly as a "Fun gun" plinker at the range I'm thinking about putting a Leupold rimfire 3-9x40 AO scope on it for 50 - 300 yards, and a dot reflex (Open) holo sight mounted on top of the Leupold scope for 10 - 50 yards.

Cheers,

Mark

+1 for all of the above. Get the Smith, ALL of the controls work the same. Well the charging handle only moves about half as far to pull the bolt all the way back, but that's minor and that's all.

AND because it's more or less a "real" AR, you can change out the sights, grips and butt stocks just like a "real" carbine if you don't like the base pieces. FYI, the "buffer" tube is mil-spec diameter, and has a rubber stopper you can pull out and use the tube for storage of small stuff, like cleaning gear and such. The gun looks real nice if you put flat dark earth grip, stock and rail covers on it. S&W even makes it that way now as an option.

The only down-side I can see is the upper and lower are slightly different dimensionally so they won't fit "real" AR upper or lower, and the mag well is slightly different dimensions also, so your mag well vice block won't fit it. Again, that's minor.

Now that I got mine, I'm selling my Spike's dedicated 22 upper. I got it about 6 months before the Smith came out, and have serious buyer's remorse. The Spikes upper cost more than the whole S&W rifle, came without sights, and the bolt hold open does not work the same as a "real" AR.

I do know how to change out trigger groups in AR's since building mine.
I like the model 811032 or the 811033
Where are you guys buying the magazines, and the rifles for that matter?

I've not tried to remove the barrel so I can't say.

Jim- The 811033 is the model I bought. I got mine direct from S&W through their Federal Law Enforcement sales program. Bud's Gun Shop has about the best online prices (Price includes shipping) though I did see some listed lower on Gun Broker.

I picked up a used one for my Grandsons to shoot. They can hit the bull (6 inch) at 50 yards and it functions fine, no complaints. Got it for $300 OTD, thought that was a fair price.

I have had one for over a year. I have around 5K rounds through it with no problems. Shoots federal, Winchester and Wolf match target without any problems. A lot of the problems I read about initially was due to improper loading of the magazines. SW changed the design of the magazine but I am still running the original. I use it to try out new accessories for my Colt 6920. I wanted try out a micro red dot so I purchased a Primary Arms Micro and mounted it on the SW. I loved it so much I purchased an Aimpoint Micro for my Colt. Now my training rifle is functionally the same as my battle rifle.
I love the rifle and have not been disappointed.

The magazines are now on sale at Midway for $15.99, either the hi-caps or 10-rounders. I have also seen them at good prices at CDNN.

I bought one about a year ago, love it
put on some KAC rail covers, and a primary arms red dot,

great rifle, great for plinking,
not as accurate as my bolt guns, but it's not supposed to be,

I have around 1K of various ammo, standard vel to mini mags thru it w/o an issue,
