View Full Version : Evil Black Rifle
I have never wanted one of these. Living in a small town where everyone knows you and where you live I really didn't want to be seen with one.
Where the Black rifle might fit into my scheme of thing is this. Being to lame to run and to old to fight the rifle might get a little respect if I ever had to defend myself or family.
Have better firearms for defence but thought the Black Rifle might get a younger person attention quicker and stop a altercation before it starts.
In short better bluffing power.
Any ideas on this subject?
A nickel finished or stainless steel big bore handgun gets attention just as quick and it's easier to get into action. Don't worry about showing any gun though. If you have reason to pull it you have reason to use it. If they don't react and stop in a milisecond...boom.
All to often giving the bad guy a second chance is their second chance to get the drop on you!
Better to think of it as a better deterent power, not a bluffing power. That would indicate that your mindset is to bluff and not follow up with necesary force if and when you have to. What I'm saying is that if you go into a situation with the intention of "bluffing", you're actually putting yourself and your loved ones in danger. You'll hesitate. You'll reconsider. You'll send the message that you realy don't mean it when you want to send the message that you really DO mean to use force. It isn't easy to just DO it. It sometimes takes being involved in several situations where you confront hostile intentions towards you and yours before you have ingrained in your mind and instincts the Cold will to follow through with using absolute dominating force to STOP the situation. Bluffing will get you killed. They'll be able to see it in your face and hear it in your voice. "dont take another step or I'll shoot" "I really mean it...I'll shoot!" "Please don't take another step!" " I don't want to hurt you but I will if I have to!" "I'm not kidding!" You're allready as good as dead if you have to say any of these things. Just my opinion
I too was slow to respect the black rifle but that has all changed. I wouldn't be without at least a couple of them now.I don't know of any other rifle that has as many options made for it and .556 and .308 will tackle most anything out there.
Reseach what your needs are and buy from that.
heres your cure.
i for one dont own an AR variant, after working on them for years, i dont feel the need for one..
but a warm and fuzzy AR, wont that make your town feel good about those evil Black guns lol.
But I wouldn't have it as my only weapon.
If TSHTF, I first grab a pistol, then I like a Carbine for it's easy mag change, in house capability. But if I had to grab something for a lot of firepower at moderate to longer distances, it would be the AR-15 and a handful of full mags. A bit lighter than nabbing a Garand and a can of 30.06.
As for shooting on the range, a rifle with some wood on it is more practical, more military feeling. More like the good old days.
My only objection to a rifle is it's a bit difficult to carry concealed:eek:
That pink rifle might send the wrong message but on the other hand it would double my chances of getting a date. Already have a little dog that looks like Toto so my manhood may be in question.
In a small community you have to fly below the radar. You don't talk about guns or what you have. It's considered bad form if you go shooting with a friend and talk about his firearms.
Just better to have more than you show.
After being a participant in the First South-East Asian Wargames(Second-place) and another 20 in the Air Guard as a Small-Arms Spec(7-level) any AR platform in 5.56 is the last thing I would grab if range were any issue at all. AAMOF, any AR platform in 5.56 would not be even my third or fourth choice. Any thing over 100 yards where anything but concealment was involved, I would go to one of my Main Battle-rifles.
It's not a problem of being able to hit with the platform it's the fact that you have to do it multiple times to achieve any telling effect at any range past 100 yards. I've learned the hard way not to trust my life to a .22.
If I have time to get to a rifle, they'll deal with one of my Garands or my M1A or my FAL.
I disagree somewhat. Granted, you want to be very clear as to when you will use the weapon--and then do it. Also, the 5.56 is not a .375 H&H, but at interpersonal distances I certainly don't want to get shot with it.
In my LEO days I bought a CAR-15 in the mid-80s; we were doing a lot of raids, etc. A high intimidation factor makes BGs somewhat more thoughtful and less likely to do something stupid that will involve a lot of paperwork. A cheap trick, if you will--but what the hay. Call it applied psychology. :evil6:
If you're not really into ARs and don't plan to practice a lot and become proficient, don't buy one for home defense. Use what you're best with - I'm thinking pistol or shotgun.
all BS asside, a 20 inch pump shotgun loaded with #7 shot will work best in a home protection weapon. easy to use, not a lot of skill needed to hit your target.
#7 shot will kill at less then 30 Feet, and not go past the walls in your home,
attach a little flash light with a pressure switch, chances are when your going to use this weapon, it will be dark, youll be in your boxers, bare foot, not seeing well, and its hard to hold a light and gun at the same time, and see that what your pointing at is a bad guy, not the drunk kid from next door that mistakingly walked in your house..
above actually happened here, even though the home owner wasnt charged, think of what he has to live with the rest of his life..
had he had a flashlight attached, he would have made the kid, and likely just got him home to sober up.
its cheap to set up a shotgun this way. a nice pump..150.00 200.00
the light wth mount, 90.00 to 100.00.
and they work well.
and if you like, you can paint it pink, blue or what ever color you like.:1948:
If the "drunk kid" from next door is in my house then he would have to break in.
Anyone "illegally" in my house is fair game.
Hey, I live in a FREE State.
well, that is your right...
i dont lock my doors at night, never have never will, and i live in a large city.
i am a very light sleeper.
if someone walked into my home, and this has happened.
they would have a firearm pointed at them, common since tells me, to ask,
hey! whats going on,?whats up??your in the wrong place.
if its someone i know. that lives next door, or down the street for that matter, am i just going to shoot, and aske questions later???no..
imagine the media having a feild day with that, gunsmith in North Denver, kills 92 year old lady, she walked into the wrong house, he opened up on her.
the police find over 300 guns in his house, assault weapons ect..
18 years ago, after my divorce, i rented a nice apartment for a short time.
they all looked the same from the outside.
one night, i hear my front door open, and someones keys hit my table.
i figure its my exwife looking for a little action???lol.
then i hear a mans voice talking to himself.
i grab a M29 Smith, and confront the guy, im standing naked pointing a large pistol at this guy, who is reading my mail,
he realized right away, he was in the wrong apt.
i said, DUDE, your really in the wrong home, he had the oh Sh*t look on his face, and back out my door, leaving his keys.
i went back to bed,
next morning, he brother came to my door, and explained, and asked for his brothers keys.
and thanked me for not shooting his drunk brother..
the first rule of firearm safety is to be sure of your target and whats beyond it.
let me clarify, if someone is in my home, my shop, or ect, that wants to hurt me, or steal from me, they will likely leave in giant ziplock bag.
if someone is hurt, lost, or needs help, ill be the first to put my hand out, and give them that help.
a drunk, or confused person, who you know isnt a threat, or wanting to steal or harm you, needs your help, not the bus end of your rifle.
remember..once you pull that trigger, your life will never be the same, and you can never bring that bullet back..
even the biggest ego, will suffer from a death, warranted or not.
For a break in I use a 45ACP Smith 625 first and easiest to get to on the night stand also have a 18" barreled 870 with trap loads but I have to get out of bed for that one..
I was thinking the AR would have some visual effect to young people with baggy pants, hats on backwards crowd. Now you might think I'm racial at this point but no in my community we have no people of color. We do have lowlife that in a circumstance of civil unrest would go for the weakest for personal gain.
Now a man on his property armed with a Ar might have the effect that this person isn't a victim and we should go down the road and find a easier target. This stupid crown wouldn't have the same fear of a M-1 because they are stupid but would recognize the Black Rifle.
Anyway to me that would be the only value to own the AR. I don't usually feel well enough to shoot the few firearms I do have so not looking to buy anything new.
Chuck, with your luck, I am surprisd you haven't won millions in the lottery.
lol, well, if i didnt like red heads so much, id sure have a lot more money, thats for sure.
but, one has to play the lottery to win it right??:icon_lol:
