I think I have found a true carbine and have a question regarding it.
The serial number is 177262 with a star after.
It has the trap in the buttplate. It has a cartouch which appears to be dated 1882.
It shows no signs of being a cut down rifle.
Here is my main question. I believe this is what would be called a model 79?
The lock plate is dated 1873. Isn't this for the earliest of these carbines?
Would I be more correct with an undated lock to be more correct?
