Proper Cadet barrel length measuring from the face of the breech to the muzzle- 29-5/8"?

Distance from hinge on breech block? Somewhere I got the idea it was 28".....

The first statement is correct. Not sure I understand the second. How could the face of the block NOT match the centerline of the hinge pin?

You must have seen something where someone had measured to the front of the receiver.

Or, perhaps you read the ad of a well-known Washington DC area dealer, who, for at least two years, has been offering a BADLY faked 28" barrel short rifle (complete with new/repro stock custom sized for length to accommodate the MARTINI - yes, REALLY! - cleaning rod with which it is fitted) as an SRS-ID'd "1879" Cadet?

I can't for the life of me figure out where I got the 28" from! Thanks for the response, Dick and yes you are right about the hinge pin. Maybe it is the measurement from the front of the receiver! Maybe that's what I was thinking?
