Barrel Band Spring

What's the easiest way to remove the barrel band spring without damaging the stock, of course?

..a problem with them. I just make sure the "catch " part is centered in the notch it's entire length and that it moves up and down and is not stuck or gummed up. Use a brass punch that fills most of the hole and use very light taps. As it starts to move , flip over often to be sure the arm does not move over to an edge. Chris

Sometimes, after years, the wood will swell slightly over the spring edges. Use a dental pick to make sure this has not happened. Gently scrape the wood edge around the spring.
