Gents,

I've got what I believe is a S&W M&P 2nd Model 1st change. However, it is a round butt yet the S/N is 35982 which I believe is in the 1st change window, but I thought 1st changes were square butt only.

Also, the cylinder stop does not lock the cylinder when it is rotated clockwise (when looking from above) and I believe needs to be replaced.

I've two questions: Where can I find a cylinder stop and spring for this model and can anybody give me a quick and dirty on how to replace it? I can't seem to find my disassembly manual.

TIA

The sylinder on a Smith rotates conter-clockwise. Though it should lock when you rotate it either way. You can open the cylinder to check if it will
move up and down. This would be with the hammer down of course. Quick take down;
Remove grips
lossen screw on main spring
remove screws holding side plate
tap grip frame with plastic mallet to vibrate side plate lose.
remone main spring
From this point you will need a special tool to remove trigger rebound spring.
it can be done without it, but is difficult to put back in.
now bring hammer to abought half cock to remove trigger assembly.
this will allow you to remove the cylinder stop and spring.
If you have never do this befor, it may be best to have a gunsmith do it.
the cylider stop is not always a drop-in fit.
Parts can be found at Brownells, Gun Parts,or any other parts dealer.
