After returning to the US from a year in Afghanistan, I decided to drive the 5500 miles home. While traveling through Az I came across an 1884 that had a beautiful bore and finish. The price was right so I picked it up. Number 2 was found in a small junk shop in Ca I wasn't going to buy it until I saw the S.C. stamped on the buttplate and the guy threw in a very nice bayonet, scabbard and frog. I was hoping that i could get some info them both I assume the S.C. was a National Guard rifle it too has a beautiful bore.

#1 1884 model, the cartouche is very light and I cant tell the date stamp. the bluing is really nice on all the barrel bands, trigger guard and barrel, it does not appear to have been reblued. It has a serrated trigger, an 1884 marked breechblock, a Buffington rear sight marked with an R. the bore looks like a mirror. The serial number is 495475

#2 1884 model, the bluing is not as nice the bore is just as nice as #1. Overall it is in nice shape the buffington sight on this one is a carbine sight marked with a C, the trigger is smooth and it has a bronze firing pin. the buttplate has a S.C stamped below the US. the bayonet that came with it is very nice, the scabbard doesn't have any dents and the leather is in nice shape. The serial number is 387053

I have some pictures of #1 and I will try to get some of #2 later

Thank you all in advance for any help

nice. aftre a year in afganistan you deserve a couple nice rifles. hope you enjoyed the trip. i would rather drive across the country than fly over it. did it once on a bike but that was a long ride.

Welcome home! And thank you. Rough job, but IMHO necessary.

If the Taliban gets back in we're in for some serious hurt.

None of those thugs our folks kill in Afghanistan or Iraq will ever fly a plane into a building here in the USA. Far better that they die there, than in our countrycommiting terrorism. Well done sir to you & everyone serving there. Congrats on the new rifles too.

It would be a state militia, not the National Guard which didn't exsist until 1911
