View Full Version : Match trigger for Colt 6731 HBAR
I shot the monthly three gun match yesterday and as usual came up short on the rifle stage. I'm shooting a Colt 6731 16" HBAR and the trigger is quite stiff. I think I could improve my scores a bit if I switched to a better trigger.
One problem...my Colt has large pins. Do most of the match triggers ( RRA, Geiselle, Timney, etc) make triggers for large pin receivers? Also, I've heard that some Colt receivers require some modification of the receiver to accept national match triggers. Can anyone fill me in on what mod might be required?
Any suggestions as to which triggers?
Thanks

I have a match trigger in my old 1975 SP lower. For 3-gun I usually put my H-BAR upper on it. My impression is that the HBAR receiver has to be machined to allow the match trigger to be installed. Which opens up other bags of worms. I am told BATF doesn't like that. So those of us who thought we bought the best, when we bought Colt, were kind of.... Had. My HBAR lower is a fireable rifle, but not a useful one.
Sometimes I just put my old lightweight original upper on the SP with triangle handguards and a leather (brown) sling to boot just to look like an old Phart!
The last I knew, all the custom trigger mfr's made replacements for Colt. If I remember right RockRiver did too, ya just had to specify hole size.

After getting some feedback on another forum, I was able to determine that is correct. Geissele has an interesting on-line guide to Colt triggers. I was also concerned about the "sear block" that Colt employed and that issue is covered in the guide as well.

If anyone finds a drop-in for an HBAR please tell me. I know Wilson makes only the one kind that does not fit.
Remember , do not set your trigger/sear to break at too low a weight, it will be illegal in CMP Service Rifle competition, if you shoot in them too.
