I'm building an AR and I am prepping it for duracoating now. I would like to remove every part that I can. However, the barrel lock nut is keeping the rear handguard ring on.

Can I remove the barrel lock nut for coating then just put it back on without any problems or will this open me up to having the barrel move around and cause headspace issues?

Thanks

No headspace issues will be caused by removing the barrel nut and disassembly of the delta ring for refinishing.
When you reassemble the barrel to the receiver, it only goes on one way.

If you want to remove the barrel nut completely from the barrel, you'll have to also remove the front sight housing?
I don't know how far apart you want to take things?

Thanks, It's a super bull barrel and I pulled the gas block already. Only items not dissassembled are the barrel/upper, barrel nut and D-ring and dust cover. This will almost be a scratch build once I Duracoat it.

I just didn't want to pull the barrel nut and find out there was some sort of voodoo involved I couldn't see. Sort of like the last 1911 I took apart where tiny pins and parts I couldn't identify kept falling out at random.....lol
