I first learned of him thru the old Louis L'Amore novels, DS was quite an amazing man, both courageous & determined in nature.

Stoudenmire killed two of the four men who died in the four men in five seconds fight and one of them was an innocent guy who just happened to be in the wrong spot. Stoudenmire was typical of the professional gunmen of his time working both sides of the law. He probably killed more people than most of the old west gunmen, and some of those were also probably out and out murders. The old west really was a place and time when the difference between cop and crook was thin and often defined purely by who was writing the checks.

On April 14, 1881 Marshal Stoudenmire heard gunfire and ran out into the street where Hale and Cambell had just shot Constable Krempkau. Stoudenmire fired a shot at them but killed a Mexican by mistake, Stoudenmire then fired at Hale and Cambell, killing them both

You are correct. I thought that Krempkau killed Campbell but I was mistaken.
