M97 Riot. Philippine Era?

Winchester M1897 12GA. 20" barrel, CYL. #C 168,849. Its been used hard, touched up with cold blued long ago. The stock has also been cut off by 1 1/4", replaced metal butplate. I got it at shooter price, so I thought I can't get hurt. The different thing is the "U.S." stamp under serial #. It looks old but its not like any observed? What do you think?? TIA!

Man, that thing is a pup! I'd like to see a picture of the ejection port. Who knows where that has been, what it has seen. Not too sure about the U.S., coulda been done anytime by anyone. Interesting old shottie.
