Does anyone know of any other Benecia Arsenal stock cartouches aside from B.A.W.L, is this a variation.

I have an example still in cosmoline after rebuild known to have originated at Benecia Arsenal sold as "parts" with cartouche "BA WJ" in rectangle. William Brophy in " The Springfield 1903 Rifles" p. 567 lists, "BA" "BA-WK" BA-J.L." " BA-W.L." and "BA-JS"

many thanks, until this stock had only seen BAWL.

I noticed it also. Someone really butchered a chunk of wood out undoubtedly for a bolt altered to clear a scope.

other than the large cut, it looks like a pretty decent stock.
Looks like the profile of a 1917 bolt handle.

I have a MK1 converted at Benecia boxed B.A.J.L. Funny thing is all the MK1 parts are still in it so all they did was stamp it.

Yep with that cuttout I would have passed on the stock at $10 yet it sold for $195. He mentions the cuttout but the picture is not good.
