View Full Version : Stock set
In my accumulated parts, I have a two piece rifle stock of unknown origin. It looks like British but I am not at all familiar with these weapons.
Can someone identify it and tell me if it is worth anything to anyone?
Thanks,
John Sukey

It's certainly for a Lee enfield. However the only original part is the buttstock. The forend has been "Bubba'd" ie; chopped down. Possibly usable on another bubba but not much else.
Thanks, John -
Guess I can always use it for firewood.
"...can always use it for firewood..." Wouldn't be too hasty. A Lee-Enfield No. 4 Rifle butt stock is worth $30 or so. The forestock could still be used/sold as well. Not worth as much. $15 to $20, maybe. No. 4 Rifles with bubba'd stocks make good truck guns.

The stock parts were originally from an Enfield No.4 MkI*, probably made by Long Branch in Canada or Stevens-Savage in USA. The wood and the overall condition seems to be very nice. Look at the No. 5 Jungle Carbine - also a sort of sporter. Shoudn't be a problem to find an Enfield No.4 system and build a sporter from it. Especially after the war it was a very common practice to turn military rifles into sporter/hunting rifles. I have seen some really nice examples.

The stock parts may be too good for firewood but I have a work area just bursting at the seams with half finished projects and parts. Someone should "Make me a deal" if it's worth anything. My only experience with two-piece Enfield stocked rifles was a long time ago when a friend had one. He asked me to go out with him to sight it in before deer season. After the second full case seperation in less than a dozen rounds downrange, he decided to give up on it. I really haven't had much desire for one since. :icon_lol:
