Well after 13 years collecting and shooting civilwar black powder guns, 1903s, m1 garands and carbines, m1a's, k98s ect. Never had intrest in ar/m16s in my life. Was at my friends gun shop and saw a bushmaster xm15 a3 hbar on the wall. Asked to handle it, and must say liked the feel. I had my 1917 there for sale on consignment. So i figure id attempt a trade, and asked if he'd be interested in a straight up trade for my 1917 for the xm15. Surprisingly he agreed, and came home with it.
Got some ammo and took to range. Half inch groups at100 yards is really nice, and no sore shoulder like after firing a garand is a real bonus lol. Im hooked. Wonder why it took me so long to get one now....
bad move on your part,,,,,
seriously,
they (AR's) are like Lays potato chips, you can not have just one,,,,:icon_jokercolor:
and there is no cure, (just like garanditis)
sorry for the bad news, :eusa_dance:
enjoy!!

Thanks. I originally wanted a retro colt SP1, but this one seems to fit the bill well. Dont think I will collect them as crazy as I have with wwii weapons, but time will tell.

No real military history connection with the civilian ones like your other WWII guns and mine have so I can't get real interested in them but they are a fun gun, Ray
Yeah, now you've done it. Next you'll have to try your hand at building a complete AR. Back in the early 80's I was a M1 carbine shooter when I came across my first SP1. I've had a couple of dozen AR's go through my hands since then and have built more than a dozen. I presently have six in my collection including two Colts that are dedicated to my duty needs. Just exercise some self control because AR's are modular and the list of accessories and upgrades are nearly endless.

I once heard a guy say that the M16/AR15 system is the "Barbi Doll" of firearms, meaning the accessories you can dress it up with are almost limitless.
the collapsible stocked CAR 15's are extremely handy, getting in a vehicle or out. Plus, 1 easily straps to a good back pack frame too.

My first I got an HBAR. Shoots nice but weighs as much as an M14. And not as effective At long range. Got a Colt Government Carbine. Half the weight twice the fun. Six Pound zombie killer. Trijicon Reflex sight On drop mount. Accurate and Colt reliable. My under 200 yard rifle. Shoot it a lot more. CC

thing is, here in MA, the colt sp1's, instead of costing 1200-1500, they go for 2k+ due to our liking of AWB.. So I cant even convert to a usefull M4 with collapsable stock ect. Maybe someday ill still get a sp1, and sell this one.
I'm glad I live in Missouri.................instead of an anti-gun state.
They are interesting toys. I have never been able to get attached to them. I build them, play SWAT team for about 3 minutes then decide I still like my fullsize guns better. Then they get sold or traded. Then the cycle starts again.

I refer to them as the NIKE or small block chevy of firearms depending on who I am talking to.

Ha Ha , that's good. I really like the big block's then. Since building my AR10 my mil-surp collection have gotten a rest period.
seriously though, it is like every company makes parts or accessories for them. I'm not that big a fan myself, I like wood and steal and bullets that put big holes in solid objects. But I do love and support the fan base the AR/M16 has. Anything that gets more people involved and causes more money flow/tax revenue has to be good and when it revolves around "assault weapons" it is a win/win situation.

Back in the mid-80s I picked up a Colt CAR for LE work. The need for it diminished, and when I moved to sagebrush country I figured I would never have much need or desire for an AR again.
I rethought that assumption and some years ago picked up a Bushmaster in similar configuration; carbine with fixed carry handle and A1 sights. I found out rather quickly that my eyes couldn't handle the short sight radius and any distance, and discovered low-powered ACOGs. In retrospect I probably should have bought a Colt, but The Bush-hamster is upgraded and I even changed out the barrel for a lightweight one like the old CAR had.
There are so many options available now that didn't exist back in 1985. I don't believe in adding junk, but being able to swap out a heavy, creepy AR trigger for a match grade unit is wonderful.
The mouse guns don't have the cachet of the M1, but things change. (I still have more M1s than ARs, though!)

Accessories: Somewhere under all those accessories there is a rifle.
It's a toss up whether the AR or the Ruger mini-14 has more add-on junk

Somewhere there is a rifle! A buddy of mine that I love dearly, but who has more money than sense sometimes, has a 15 pound M4 Carbine. It has everything except an 8-track player and a dedicated bottle opener attached to it.
I'm pretty sure the AR platform has more accuracy potential than the Mini-14 and that's why it has a larger variety of junk available for it.

I am so glad to find out that I am not alone. Growing up I was always into the Mausers, Garands, and even had (and still have) an 1878 Springfield Trapdoor in 45/70 that I loved to shoot. My shooing buddy shot only ARs. I always mocked him because of the small cartridge. I too made the mistake of taking one down off of the shelf and holding it. I ended up buying that Armalite and boy how it has gobbled up the shells. Now I find myself waking up at night thinking about all of the things that I could attach to it (lights, lasers, etc.). Was never a problem with the Mausers, all I ever attached to one of those was a sling and the occasional bayonet.

i lost them all in a boating accident. now i only use my phone for self defense...

Well trading my bushmaster xm15 hbar, for a redone M1903 Springfield. I am however replacing it, with a 1974 colt sp1, with 3 prong flash hider, and all correct colt parts in excellent condition.

Gosh, sorry to hear about your unfortunate incident. I'm sure you reported it to all the proper authorities so they can make note that you have no more firearms! <wink, wink>

Well here it is. After more research is a 1974 model. Overall not bad for 1300 (in massachusetts too!) for everything. all Parts are C marked that I could find.
