I finally found a gunsmith to thread some barrels for me. My 6mm/30-40 Ackley Improved rifle may someday become a reality after all. The barrel for it is a heavy Obermeyer barrel that I got for $10 off gunbroker. The fellow was a refuge from ebay used to getting some good money for his barrels, I was almost sorry to take it from him. But I think he learned his lesson and now either sets a reserve, or a starting bid he can live with. I've accumulated most everything else I need for the rifle, a handmade heavy walnut target stock, a Pacific receiver sight with target knobs, a couple receivers and the rest of the parts to make a functional Krag rifle. Also have an old Krag semi-inletted stock that appears to made of ash, it outweighs the walnut. The rifle will be a surprise for the fellows at the Washtenaw cast bullet shoot. Last time I was there with a Krag, I was the only one shooting a military rifle, all the rest were benchrest shooters. Oh, I have reloading dies and the chamber reamer too, been planning this for awhile, but I have to find someone to make me a mold with the Eagan 6mm cherry I have. Liam, I do have my hands in too many pies, but there comes a time in life when you suddenly realize, you've got little time left, best get 'er done.
