The sights on the U.S. Rifle Model of 1917 are calibrated for a 150 grain FMJ/BT projectile moving at 2700 FPS.

Is this correct?

Thanks in advance

Yes , except the 1906 bullet was flat based.

Actually I want to say its calibrated on M1 ball, something like 200 gr bullet.
But that's only a vague feeling from the back of my head, all my books are still boxed up and in storage so I could very well be wrong.

M1 ball was developed in the early '20s after the 1917s were out of production.
It was made to maximize MG range. Boattail 172gr at 2647 fps.
Because of the ammo supply and tight budgets , it was not really put into production / use till 1936.
MGs no longer used as artillery , kicked too much , went beyond most ranges safety areas , dropped in mid '30s.
Adopped M2 ball , which was 1906 ball uped to 2,805 fps because of new powders , in 1939.
