Just another Texan here. More about myself is easier to figure out from my public Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/seangetts).

Anywhoooo... I came across this site while researching 1903A3s because my dad handed me down his "sporterized" version of S/N 3794777 earlier this year. He's had it for 40+ years and I fell in love with it way back when I first shot that beast some three decades ago. It was the first gun he let me deer hunt with, but I never bagged anything with it. Hunting was never my thing, but I loved shooting that .30-06 at whatever I could when my dad took me out.

I have no plans to ever sell it. I'll be passing it on to my daughter one day as a family heirloom and ask her to do the same and so on. I would like to reclaim it back to it's original style hence me stumbling on to this site. I have too many interests to be real active on any one particular message forum, but I'll be spending more time in the M1903/1903A3/A4 Springfield section for sure.

Welcome, Sean! Lots of helpful, informed folks here on the CSP. I suggest you do a search of your topic/query here first, for much has been discussed here over the years in reference to M1903s. Once you research your topic you'll be better-armed to formulate your questions. You're going to enjoy this site, I'm sure. Hey - I clicked your facebook link and saw that you entered the Army same year as me. Thanks for your service from a fellow cold warrior! - Liam

Sean,

That is a nice rifle just as it is. I had an 03-A3 like it when I was a kid - but no scope and stock bolt handle. I had a type C stock, whch looks like what you have, worked down, and a 4-goove barrel that I draw-filed the lathe marks off.

I'mnot sure why yould change a thing on that rifle. It has a history. A good rifle can last 100 yars, and he younger guys on this list may live to shoot 200-year-old, metallic cartridge milsurps. The story goes on, well after the rifle leaves service.

Many 03A3's were turned into great sporters back in those days. You have one with a family connection. Why change it? Just MHO.
Anyway, welcome to the forum.

Thanks for the replies. I think you guys might have convinced me to leave it as is. This is a great site though.
