NS Bolt

Looking at a bolt for a friend..NS stamped offset on top of handle, refinished with small gas hole. Does this sound legit? Sorry, no pics

NS was stamped on the bolts beginning around 1928 when the bolts and receivers were changed to nickel steel. The small hole is seen on the 1903-A1s, I believe. Lt Col William S. Brophy's "The Springfield 1903 Rifles.." will give you all kinds of details; I think it's still available, at least in used form from Alibris.com or Amazon; I get all kinds of good deals and OTWS from them.
