View Full Version : Which size drag link socket to remove M-H Stocks?
I took advatnage of IMA's Martini-Francotte sale a couple weeks back, and long story short, I want to remove the buttstock. I am told the best tool for this is a "drag link socket". Unfortunately, I am not sure which size to get, are they somewhat standardized and I can get what fits my driver, or do I need a specific size? Thanks
The stock bolt is a loose fit in the stock hole. Try to get one that just goes down the stock hole and you should be OK.
The "L" shaped tool which went with the common bumper jack works very well on several varieties of guns which have stock bolts.
Be very careful that you have the tool in the slot, and not wedged between the bolt and the stock, as you will damage the stock.
I found out elsewhere that I need a drag link socket 3/4" wide and no more than 4/5" across. My older brother is going to search for one as well as bring up his socket extension and impact wrench.
I know a lug wrench with a screwdriver end would most likely fit, but my late-model Volkswagen doesn't have one.
It would be awesome to find one of the old-school cross-shaped lug wrenches with a screwdriver at one of the points, talk about leverage!
Finally found one
Its going to get here next week, meanwhile its time upgrade to half-inch sockets.
Okay, finally received and tried it, the short version is that it didn't fit.
The long version is that while the blade was 3/4" the hole itself is .80" and the socket itself was much larger. I ended up using a 1" spade bit to get it close. Unforunately that still left a gap, so I went to plan B--using the screwdriver socket I picked up at Harbor Freight. That worked.
Unfortunately I split the stock driving out the rusted stock bolt, d'oh!
