Hello.

I would like to prevail upon you again for advice/answers for new new purchase, a Springfield 1903, sporterized at some point in the past (50s-70s?).

I have a none-too-good picture of some kind of a device that is screwed into the right side of the receiver, behind the bold handle.

Since I am new to this type of firearm, I thought the device was standard--although I sure didn't know what it was. I am less sure that it is standard, and now believe it to be some type of iron sight (the rifle currently has a Weaver K3 on Buehler mounts; not sure of the rings).

There is a Redfield front sight. Does this device in the photo look like any sight you are familiar with? I will certainly take more photos, if it will help.

Thanks!

for a peep sight, ala Lyman/Redfield or one of the other sight makers? You'ld have to remove the scope before the peep sight's slide could be inserted from what I can see. My best guess.

It's the base for a Redfield 102S sight. The gallows arm has been removed so the scope could be mounted.
