While going through my 1917 parts box I ran across this rear sight and found it interesting. I've looked over an (admittedly limited) number of 1917 sights and don't recall seeing one like this before.

The sight is blued and the face is polished bright. (That's grease, not rust)

On the back, below the Winchester "W" is the letter "F", and on the other side is the number "35". Inspection stamps no doubt, but are these common and do they denote a particular time period. Just curious. :icon_scratch:

I just looked at one of my winchesters and it is the same. The bluing is mostly worn off by the slide on one side of the ladder. It is a WWI rear sight.

There is another US rifle (also in 30-06 cal) that your sight was used on

It seems possible. My familiarity is only with U.S. rifles and doesn't extend back beyond the 1903 except for a "passing acquaintance" with the 1898 Krag.

The Browning Automatic Rifle Model 1918 used the Enfield rear sight and buttplate
