Looks like a WWI trench gun with the hand stamped US and Ordnance bomb marks. It has some metal finish issues including some pitting. The buttstock is not an original WWI one. It's a later replacement buttstock that also has a metal replacement buttplate on it. But that kind of metal buttplate was often used by the Military as a replacement on Model 1897 and Model 97 trench guns.
Would like to see some more photos to see how the bayonet adaptor fits in relation to the muzzle end of the barrel.

Thanks for the reply. Really nice examples are out of my reach. I know this one is a bit salty. The barrel is marked "cyl" and "Ga. 12" which I believe to be correct.
I gave an "I'll take it" and have a 3 day inspection period.
It is a real WWI trench with a later buttstock. I don't know if the condition warrants that price, but that is between you and your checking account. You are not being ripped off, it is real.

Actually, I think it is a cool looking piece. It says "been there, done that".

It looks legit . The rubber boot is a grenade launching boot for WW2 1903s and M1 Garands . My only concern is the sling . We have tried to put those slings on alot of trench guns , and the hook just never can fit through that front swivel . Always close , but won't by a constant hair . If you would , check to see if someone filed the edges of the hook down . It may just have a swivel at the maximum of the allowable spec range , though.

I think you did well. This is what a real, wartime used gun can be expected to look like. I would leave it as it is, and enjoy. Good buy at a good price.

It is quite similar to one I sold not long ago with out hand stamped markings (as most were) for $1800.
You did not pay a premium, it seems like a fair deal.

that looks like an original used WWI trench gun should expect to look. Markings are legit, it is no closet queen or museum piece, more like a wardog with the "been there, done that" look.
I think you did well. Congratulations!
nice. hope she serves you well........
Absolutely a beauty....love it :) Nice find...
