Set in a post apcalyptic America, a totalitarian government annually drafts 24 young people to fight to the death with primitive weapons. America is divided into twelve districts separated by electrified barbed wire. The working stiffs live in dustbowl condition houses/shacks, with food in short supply. The rulers wear ridiculous 1890 style clothes and nutty makup. Basically this movie is gratuitous violence but... The hero and heroine fight iand kill in defense, only, while the other competitors kill each other off... So there is some morality to the tale. And it is a cautionary tale of totalitarian repression.

I give it a definite thumbs down. I was dragged there.

Who dragged you - was it your wife or daughter? What was their take?

Sounds wonderfully annoying. I am sure it will become a classic.

Wife. Justification: "...we need to see what they are feeding these kids!"

Just say, "Yes dear..." (much easier....)

My teenage son read the books, and liked them. He recently went to the movie with other teenage friends. He came home, unimpressed... giving it a "6.5 out of 10" which is pretty low for him! I may watch it on NetFlix some day..... maybe.......
