Fort McCoy is an active United States Army installation. It is located on 60,000 acres (240 km2) between Sparta and Tomah, Wisconsin, in Monroe County. Since its creation in 1909, the post has been used primarily as a military training center.

The post has been in virtually constant use since it was first formed as the "Sparta Maneuver Tract" on 14,000 acres (57 km2) in 1909. At first the tract was made up of two camps, Camp Emory Upton and Camp Robinson. These were separated by a line of the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad that ran across the land from east to west. In 1910, the army renamed the entire tract "Camp Bruce E. McCoy" for Robert Bruce McCoy, a retired major general, who first proposed the area as a training ground and bought part of the property on which the fort stands. In 1926 the name of the post was shortened to "Camp McCoy".

That may be my favorite photo so far. It's all business.

I used to deer hunt on Camp Mc Coy in the mid 80's. You would find all kinds of mags and such. Found a mortar round and thought it would make a cool souvenier. My uncle said he thought it was a dud and not a dummy and to get away from the thing. We showed some of the base guys where it was at. Even found a few Garand enblocs with blanks in them. We would shoot them off at the range at home and thought it was a blast. One thing I always remember was on opening day hearing M-16's going off in the area where only the base guys could hunt. They also had some albino deer there, which I have never seen anywhere else.

Notice this rack holds 20 Garands AND 20 .45's. You should see it full!! I wish!
I also had a vertical rack that held 60 .45's in three circular tiers of 20 and 20 vertical rifles arranged around the base in a circular tier. This rack weighed over 125#.I had to leave it behind with a good friend when I moved. Sorry, no pics. :(
