View Full Version : This may be a strange question, but..
how would one go about removing the guard from a M1 or M1905 bayonet without destoying it, so that it could be "repaired".:icon_scratch:
Remove the grips and catch, latch etc and CLEAN the sides of the guard with some 4x steel wool and wipe down with something like ACETONE.
Lo and behold you will see TWO rivets. They were installed from right to left so I STRONGLY suggest that you drive them out using a GOOD punch with a square tip, from the LEFT side.
Once you get them BOTH out gently drive the guard towards the tip of the blade. You might ALSO heat the guard with a butane torch PRIOR to driving it off.
IF your guard is in bad shape you might also get in touch with me at:
As I STILL have about 5 or six brand new ones still in the WWII cosmoline and a good supply of the original rivets.JR
