View Full Version : A3 rear sight removal?
I have this A3 and the rear sight has a little wiggle. There has to be a way to tighten it up.
early sights have a set screw, adjust the windage to the right as far as it goes, and look for a small set screw,
if that doesnt work, youll see a round spot on the other side, that a stake area,
with a flat tip punch the same diameter, punch it, it should tighten up,
replace the sight.
adjust the windage to the right as far as it goes,
Adjust windage all the way to the left (the other right :icon_wink: ) to expose the set screw (if there is one) .... the set screw is on the right.
Smith Corona kept the set screw to the end of production; Remington abandoned it after they started staking the sight bases.
my shoes are on the right feet today,,i think. lol:1948:
So the red arrow is the staking area?
some sights have a bigger spot, some have 2..but you get the picture.
The picture is 4.7M Smith-Corona. The staking on S-C's that I have seen is almost "dainty" compared to Remingtons. I guess Remington had bigger hammers, and used them multiple times.
Most of my gear is Remington so I will get out the big hammer.
