Just acquired a M'73 bayonet in a M'85 scabbard.

Tried it on my '84 Cadet . . . won't slip past the sight blade, as it is too high!

Are the Cadet blades higher than the regulation model blades?

My cadet has the Buffington rear sight.

Quite often the "hump" on the socket is compressed or bent enough where the sight won't slide through it. Any TD bayonet should fit on the cadet rifle if the sight is the original height. They were not different.

jim4-I had a similar problem with my cadet.I could put my 73 full length on fine. But, could not mount my Trowel. It seems when they cut the 3" off the barrel(very late 567481), it was too thick for the bayonet to slip over the sight.Another problem was with a Cadet bayonet I bought. It was in great shape, no use. I found out why. It was an 1855 "S", swagged to size. The swagging left a small lip inside the barrel ring. Solution, merely ground down the lip to size, fits fine, work unseen. Hope that helps. SKIP
