View Full Version : CMP eligibility question
Would the CMP accept an EXPIRED US passport as proof of citizenship? After all, one has to have been a citizen to have one even though it has expired. I'd hate to have to wait the additional 6-8 weeks for a new passport and then apply to CMP.

Birth certificate may be an easier solution.
simple solution: call CMP!
what the options are to verifying various requirements?
I believe I sent them a copy of my old, old, old, original military ID.

for ease of registration. I remember getting a Garand from the DCM and the hoops you jumped through....and the long time to wait for the rifle to show up! You had to send in a finger print card, I got mine one Saturday morning at the local sheriff's office. They put me in line with the drunks they picked up early that morning and several wanted to know what I got busted for. I made something up and kept my real reason to myself. I think I also had gto have evidence of shooting in three matches, too. Still was worth it, got a real clean Garand for $125 I think....
Per Lynne at CMP -
1) my EXPIRED passport is sufficient evidence of my citizenship
2) my EXPIRED military ID is sufficient evidence of my having had firearms
training/familiarization
GOOD THING TOO! I cannot locate either my DD214 or birth certificate
Guess what I am scouring the house for this weekend?
