Unfortunate that there is so much truth to that poster.

As I have said before, it's a case of kill or be killed. Either we kill this bill, or this bill will eventually kill us.

It isn't a matter of wording in the bill -- it's a matter of the power it gives government. It doesn't have to say that "defective children will be aborted" or "elderly people will be denied treatment." All it has to do is give power to government, and bureaucrats will make those decisions.

If we want more affordable health care, we get government out:

1. Enact tort reform -- it's government that allows lawyers to abuse the system.

2. Make it legal for people to shop across state lines for health insurance.

3. Allow people or non-affiliated businesses to band together to bargain for health insurance.

4. Enact true Medical Savings Accounts.

Of course you are right, Vern, but your post reminded me of another great cause - that of State's Rights - and the disasterous results that ensued.

At the inception of this Country, the Founding Fathers feared a centralization of power and that it would become too powerful and overwhelming. The Civil War, though framed in different ways on either side (and morphing for the North), arguably erased the 10th Amendment (State's Rights) from the Consitution - in the end, are we not merely living at the bottom of that slippery slope now, these 150 years later ...

But why quote a document to an administration that finds it so easy and conveneint to ignore.

Vern, if only we had a president that would come out with your bullet points so we could reform health care the right way.

Bodyman, Great to see you back, I have missed your thoughtful insights.

I would say just the opposite - that the 10th Amendment repealed the "General Welfare" clause -- or at least defined its meaning as requiring a specific provision for any acts under that clause.

In any case, if we are men, we will keep our republic -- if we can do what the previous generation failed to do.
