View Full Version : SomeRCBS questions
While resizing/depriming .308 brass, I busted a decapping pin, and opened up the package of large reloading pins to find out they didn't have a "head" that would stop it from falling out of the decapper/expander.. What the heck would there be a straight decapping pin for?? (swapped out the pin from a 30-06 die) I wondered if I could just take the entire threaded rod out of the 30-06 die and swapped it into the .308 die. Is the expander the same in all .30 cal dies??
Thanks guys.

I believe the RCBS decapping pin is held by a collet. I've had them fall out but I just put them back into the collet and tighten it again. The pin and collet could probably be epoxied or Loc-tited.

The older dies didn't have a decapping pin with a head. They used a collet in conjunction to the expander to keep the pin engaged in the assembly. And to answer to your other questions, a 308 expander will work as they are the same size, and sometimes you can take the entire assembly out, it all depends on if the unit is long enough from the 308 to work in the 06 die. Also, different year dies used different sized threaded upper retainers, so some will fit and some not. If it doesn't, just swap the expander.

I did swap out the expander from the 06' to the .308.
