This blockbuster film is decidedly anti military. It has amazing cutting edge visual effects. If you end up seeing this with your kids, grandkids, niece or nephew understand that it does not portray the military in the best light.

It's another rendition of Dances With Wolves, Little big man, and so many other movies where the white man comes to live with and gets to understand the primitive tribes and then "goes native". Special effects are neat, but the myth of the "Noble Savage" is perpetuated. Actually, if such a scenario were to take place, the military would've been kept out and the negotiations for the resources would've been accomplished with professional personel familiar with the other culture who wouldn't have gone about their business like bumbling idiot agressors. However, it was a perfect opportunity for the anti military crowd to portray the military and the govt personel as just itching for a fight with the friendly natives who were at one with the universe and nature who used Zulu tactics on the evil military. Why am I not surprised.

Farewell to the King, with Nick Nolte, was another in a line of noble savage genre films. But, since there was a plethora of WWII vintage firearms throughout, I am willing to look the other way.

Avatar did have some cool futuristic weapons and ships (osprey).

It sure did! The sergeant was pretty grissly and neat too. Liked him and would prefer him over a more sensitive, PC NCO to get the job done.

I told my daughter, with whom I saw the movie, that the plot was trite and had been used in lots of movies before. She got mad at me and said that I had a closed mind. I had her read the above correlation with Pocahontis and she finaly understood and laughed. Thanks.
