I'm looking at an 1942 vintage Australian made LE Mk III with a magazine cutoff. It's functional and looks original, but I thought Australian Made LE's did not have the Mag cutoff. I like the gun and will probably buy it anyway but did the rifle come with a magazine cutoff or was it added later? I'll try to post some pics this weekend.

I have a similar vintage Aussy MKIII with a cutoff, looked to be original,
I picked this gun up back in the early 90's IIRC

'42 vintage is odd. I have an early '41 MkIII with the cutoff and a later '41 MkIII* without. 1941 was the transitional year when the cutoff was to have been dropped and rifle production began to move to Orange.

IIRC, the change began sometime towards the end of the B serial number prefix.

I don't have the rifle handy, (it 's buried in the safe) to double check the date,
but the list I made of serial numbers has no prefix, and I did't note a *

(which really means other than I need to go dig it out the safe to satisfy my on curiosity now!!!)
