View Full Version : Military Ammo Box
My friend knows that I collect military stuff so he brought me a box of 22 Hornet for the Survival Rifle. I love the warning that the government put on it. Does anyone know the date of this ammo?

Without dates from the lot number my guess would be 50s and 60s. Since the box only mentions Winchester and Savage rifles this is another clue to early.
The little M4 takedown bolt rifle was made by H&R and had a 13 in. screwout barrel and detachable magazine. They were packed into survival sleds in SAC bombers initially but later showed up in other aircraft.

Ithaca also made the survival rifle 22 hornet over .410 less then 50 of them were made.
they are AOW weapons.

Senator, I do not recall reading that warning!

It is soft point ammo that is why the warning agianst the use on enemy personal. The Hauge Convertion, remember? Even tho we never signed it.
Though not found in these ammo boxes, the Hague and Geneva Conventions/Protocols are numerous and cover a lot of topics. The US is a signatory to the 1899 and 1907 Conventions banning soft point/expanding bullets (hence our ubiquitous "Ball" ammo) among other things, and the Geneva Convention of 1925 banning chemical weapons/poison gas (hence the banning of baked beans in military mess halls ;) ). I used to give classes on these to deploying personnel to make sure they didn't violate any international laws when they killed scumbags. :63:

said ammo, and weapons were made more for surviving hunger, and not so much an attack from bad guys, however, id hate to be shot at with a .22 hornet or .410 for that matter.

Rather interesting that the folks we have fought in numerous wars don't seem to have read the rules of the hague conventiuon.
Remember the ditzy female officer who BANNED the ammo snipers were using in Iraq? Seems she thought that tiny hole in the nose of the ammo made it into EVUL expanding boolets.
That didn't last long, and I only hope she got her butt scorched for such IDIOCY
