I have a 1922 MII, and a couple of questions. Originally, mine was an MI, sn 56XX. When the M2 changes were done, the second I and B were added.

First...my guess is that the original rifle was made about 1925-26. Does that sound correct? Secondly, what is the latest barrel date commonly seen? Mine is dated 6-42. I didn't realize that SA was still doing work on these rifles that late into 1942.

I have four or five of these M1922's.. I think your production date is pretty close.. The two that aren't in the safe are both high numbers.. The m2 is 201XX and has a ballel date of 5/42, and the other one is M1 number 200XX and the barrel is 11/30..

Thanks.

It's surprising to me that they were still using resources there working on these rifles that late into '42.

Does you Lyman rear sight have matching numbers? And is it a type C?

This is one US model that I dont have and would like one. The finish on this is parkerized, a very dark charcoal color. I would have expected it to be blued. Would this have been done during a rebuild at Springfield?

The stock is also quite nice so its most likely been reworked also. Where there any cartouches or markings placed on the stock?

What should I look for before I decide on this.

Any help is appreciated as it is not cheap.

At the risk of sounding ignorant...I've always thought it was a C, although I don't know the difference between a B and a C. Didn't all of them come with Cs when MI production started? I don't see any numbers on the sight.

I'm no expert, but if you can post pics and a serial number, it would help determine what is correct. My stock has an S.A. cartouche and circle P.

and check it out. I did not see any marks on the stock except for 14 on the bottom of the pistol grip. I remember the barrel date year was 1937 but I will get more info on it.

Thanks

I believe almost all Springfield 1922's left Springfield as parkerized finish. The only exception to this was the NRA sales rifles that were highly blued finish. I have one of these NRA rifles being sold by the NRA in 11-28.

No cartouche unless it was rebuilt, which most were. Parked is right but it is a blue/brown type finish kind of dark.. I think they called it black died?? Check you rear sight by pressing the forward facing adjusting in about 1/4" and the rear sight vertical micrometer will lift out. The numbers are on the inside. Alll M1922 are not the same, and some are worth much more than others.. The early blued M1922's are at the top of the heap and one could pay 3K+ for a nice one..

Interesting.

The inside of my micrometer is stamped "B 81" The inside of the sight base reads "B93".

P&WR2800, That is a unusually nice looking rifle. Nearly all of the issue 1922MII and M2 Rifles I see have mixed numbered parts on the rear sight. The late Fred Ewalt, a nationally known authority on the Springfield .22's, considered it important to have a rear sight with matching numbers. It is certainly not a big thing with me. From my experience I can say that nearly all the Sales 1922M1 and 1922MII rifles will have matching numbers on the sight and bolts numbered to the rifle. On the issue type rifles it seems that about half have non-matching bolt numbers.

Thanks.
My bolt is electro-penciled with the correct serial number.

I tried screwing mine all the way up and there was some numbers (memory is both sides said X3 but I would like to take it apart like you are showing. I don't have the piece where I am now and can not visualize what to do.

Many thanks
