I know, it's probably not a big deal, but it is the first one that I have come across.

I broke down the bolt on one of my latest acquisitions, an 1,871,xxx S'G', and found this early extractor. I have been through about thirty or so M1 carbines and had never run across one until tonight.

The bolt is an OI2 flat, with an NI type 2 firing pin.

Thanks for looking, Greg V

Nice collector part, but I would NOT use it in a shooter. Not that it's dangerous. Just that you run the risk of it popping out. Also, make sure that you have the early conical plunger as well.

I found this in a "white bag" S'G'. It is one of my rifles that I am not planning on shooting. It does have the late plunger, which was installed upside down, as compared to how you would install one with a late extractor. I guess that kind of makes sense as there really isn't anywhere for the notch in the plunger to fit. I'll have to keep an eye out for an early conical plunger. I have never seen one of those either.

Thanks, Greg
