Garands in Vietnam.... I especially like the Combat Sandals, they are really chic....

When I was there the standard issue weapons for ARVN were the M1 Garand, M1 Carbine, Thompson and BAR. I tried to get one to trade me a Thompson but never was successful.

Duh, the bilge pump on the Assault Canoe, Dugout must be inoperative!!

Also note the Oars, Propulsion, High Speed MK 1....

I was there during the transiton to the M-16 and the village I was assigned to placed all the Thompsons, garands and carbines in a big pile, poured diesel fuel on them and burned the wood off and the metal went to a small local foundry. At the time I wasnt a collector, but years later that image almost brings tears.

When I was there (68-69) Mostly ARVIN's had carbines. Some village defence cadre's up in I corps had 1917's but that was close to the DMZ.:icon_salut:
